Re: Kaley Yard
Looking good!
I haven't heard of using Pledge for ballast, I have a bottle to use for puddles and a clear coat over paint, but had not thought of using for glue.
Do you dilute it? Does it look glossy afterwards?

Hi Mike
I apply the Pledge neat with the nozzle of the small bottle seen in the photographs. I do not pre-wet the ballast before applying, it wicks along the ballast very easily. The Pledge is not clear, its a murky cream colour, but it has not changed the colour or tone of the ballast and the ballast is not shiney, just the surface of the ties where the Pledge has strayed. I scrape the shiney Pledge off the offending ties with a small flat bladed screwdriver.

Thanks Trevor.
I'll have to try Pledge, saves straining PVA which I've had to do to stop lumps being applied.
Sounds like it soaks in better as well, another problem with PVA even with washing up liquid.
On track paint, I have been using Montana markers, from the London Graphic Centre. http://www.londongraphics.co.uk/product ... /20/page/1
I find Gravel followed by a light coat of either Brown Light or Brown looks most like modern rails. Just Brown Light for lightly use rusty tracks or Brown for yard tracks. I cut a flat on one side of the tip to get it into the rail web better.
I use the markers for car and truck weathering as well painting buildings. 2mm tips are best for rail and walls, 0.7 for details such as window frames. They dry very matt, unless you over paint a gloss coat when they come out semi gloss.

Re: Kaley Yard
Having tried Pledge for fixing ballast I'm a convert. One other advantage is it dries far quicker than PVA, to the extent that last weekend at our meeting I was doing some track work, added ballast and it was dry when the board was turned over about six hours later, with the last application around four hours before. Along with no need to dilute and easy soaking in, far better than PVA.

it looks great, indeed Pele Soeborg's influence is very apparent, and that's not being critical.

Re: Kaley Yard
I like the foam rocks. My preferred method is carve them with an old freezer knife and a box cutter, coat with ceiling paint and then stain.
My boulders are also from foam, I break bits off until they are the right size. Then remove thin edges and sand them rounder if naturally worn, or leave them sharp if quarried. I again coat with ceiling paint once stuck down and stain.
My new corner module has them on its causeway. I"m waiting for the ballast to dry after using Trevor's floor polish method, before the next round of scenery.
What a great idea for making grass tufts.
