Re: BN SD9
Yes perhaps that was the case. As said in this instance I am not too worried, I'm going to attempt to 'mask' it with some weathering . I will have plenty of practice as I have at least 3 locomotives that I want to (re)paint remaining. Looking forward to see the progress on your BN SD9, are you plann...

Re: BN SD9
Looking good so far Brian, just wondering which masking tape you use? I used the yellow masking tape from Tamiya, rubbed down the edges into all nooks and crannies, then added another coat, before proceeding with the darker colour, still got bleed so it puzzled me why it still happened, had heard g...

Re: BN SD9
Looking very good Brian, I am not sure why my paint attempt didn't work out as well, but I'm not too worried, practice makes perfect and next time I'm just trying again. BTW, I used Polyscale acrylic paints.

Re: METRA F40PH HEP sound & driving coach effects
I think this is a good question to ask Mike Ruby and Brian Moore, they've got experience with setting up the sound on FP40H's units .

Re: BN SD9
Hi Brian, looking forward to this. (you should really have modeled another railroad with your Long Hood Forward likes :-) ). Let me know how you get on with masking the black etc. I had some paint bleed doing my CFNR SD9, probably because I did not apply enough layers of cream (the colour I was mask...

Re: DCC loco decoders.
Hi Peter, yes I will invest in a programmer in due course, but will order my first ESU decoder with a 'usable' sound file, and will upload the correct or a tweaked sound file in the future where needed. Martyn, depending on which loco the first ESU decoder will end up in, I might need the Turbo soun...

Re: California Northern layout in HO
This is the (far from finished) area of Napa Jct on my layout. You can see the Locoshop building of the CFNR in the back ground, with CFNR SD9 203 being prepared for the next run north towards Willits to pick up lumber. An Eastbound SP local is preparing for departure. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/...

Re: California Northern layout in HO
Ok as promised a bit more detail. Here's the trackplan. Here's a bit of background on the layout: I started to develop this plan when looking for a small size switching layout, based on an area in California, where the SP would operate. A couple of influences can be mentioned here: Pele Soeborg for ...

my trackplan
Here's my trackplan, which I'll also post in the 'my layout' section, where I will describe it in more detail. The bottom section is missing from this caption, but it basically connects the two main tracks to the tracks on the 'other side', completing an 'around the walls design'. http://farm9.stati...

Re: DVD - Soldier Summit Reflections
Who publishes this DVD, that might help in sourcing it?
I've just ordered a DVD myself, direct from Pentrex in the USA , they can handle paypal so it all was easy to do.

Re: DCC loco decoders.
The GP35 is listed under the EMD 567 engine, it doesn't say if that has a turbo or number of cylinders. Some projects have multiple engine selections. Another possibility is the EMD645EF, which is turbo 16 cylinder but a more modern engine. A 16-567D is on the to do list. The good think with the Lo...
