Re: Model Railroading in the UK, a perception
I suspect some of it comes from us only having small layouts, by US standards, and also not realising that Operations, European style, is totally different. I modelled German railways for the best part of 25 years! During that time I operated to a timetable, but bearing in mind that most secondary l...

Re: Deadwood City Railroad - HO
Been trying out Switch Lists, save me taking the car cards with me as I go around the layout. Then decided to take it one step further and do away with car cards but have waybills for each freight car. The waybills go in the 'caboose', as I go along with the local freight, and at each location I che...

Re: Winter Project - West Mary Yard - Postponed!
I have the Rock Island version, runs OK but it is long and does require a minimum 24" radius curve, if not greater.switcher1 wrote:Does anyone know if PROTO 1000 HO 31244 MKT #20 BUDD RDC3 LOCOMOTIVE & PROTO 1000 HO 31254 NYSW #M-1 BUDD RDC1 LOCOMOTIVE are good models?

Re: Winter Project - West Mary Yard - Postponed!
Thanks, santafe1958, but they are already on order from Amazon, (&, I might add, a lot cheaper). Edit: They have just arrived, (11am). Win some, lose some! At the time I purchased them it was the opposite. However, that is neither here nor there, they are still interesting reading, and Lance do...

I use http://www.photobucket.com This is an example of what you get:- http://s780.photobucket.com/albums/yy86/santafe1958/DCRR%202013 Then you copy the link from each photo, via the img button just above the panel here (I think!). I now try to take 'simple' pictures on my iPad and upload straight to...

Re: Trackplans for a new small modular layout
If the track for the grain elevator paralleled the other line, then yes, I know what you have said about wanting slight angles, but it could double up as a run-round, if you decide on another baseboard.

If you have a few hours to 'spare', and you're into the modern scene, you could always 'drive' through various cities by the way of Google Street View!
Surprising what variety you can find!

Re: Caboose or no Caboose
The Santa Fe 'usually' had a Combine on the rear of a mixed service, until passenger services ceased, and then a Waycar (caboose) was on the rear. I'll say 'usually' as the only photos I've seen are like this.

Re: Bank holiday progress?
Being a fine weekend down in the South East, and the Good Lady also being off on the Saturday and Sunday, there was no railroad activity there, followed on Monday by going to a Bus Rally in Winchester, saw nothing either. However (there is always one!), as it was raining on the Friday beforehand, I ...

Their 'Beer Line' model was one of their better projects, in that it could be a shelf style layout, but they are few and far between.Franklinsburg wrote:Hello Boys,

Re: Interested in Layout Design?
Hello Boys, while the likes of Lance Mindheim, Pele Soeberg, Jim Six prefer a more minimalist approach. I like what these folks are doing and believe they are showing the way forward if modellers would care to observe their efforts...... combining interesting operation with realistic observation of...

Re: Interested in Layout Design?
Watching something going round and round seems to be something that the majority of model railroaders want to do. We can't afford to ignore that majority. Hopefully we can draw them in and educate them about the joys of more realistic operation, but we'll never do that if we put them off in the fir...
