Re: Auto reversing
G'day Mike. What happens on the ends of each leg you show? It looks a bit like the left and middle legs form a loop and the right is a stub end. If that is the case I would make the whole stub end the reversing section. That's what we do at Seaboard Southern. Actually that was the original intention...

Re: Winter Project - West Mary Yard - Postponed!
G'day Keith. I'm with the others about spacing it out. and especially using bigger turnouts. Those Hornby ones look like about number 4s and for good reliable running, especially when you get the larger box cars and gondolas, you should be using number 6s or 8s. They look so much better as well, but...

Re: Trackplans for a new small modular layout
It looks like it wouldn't be so difficult to straighten out the end of the track in the middle there if you changed your mind.

Re: Trackplans for a new small modular layout
Two issues I see, and I expect they're both deliberate. One is with no runaround track your cars have to be oriented correctly off the module, and with both facing and trailing industries that limits what you can do. The other is that with no through track you're limited as to where you can put it i...

G'day Brian.
Are you asking the question about the meaning of the word itself or its application to your fictional town?
One could dream up a whole history based on the meaning of the word itself depending on your context for the town. That might be quite fun to do.

Re: Interested in Layout Design?
My layout design is a classification yard and two staging yards, all in 9 feet by 1 foot (N scale). But then switching a classification yard is my primary objective. And I have a two track depot, loco depot with turntable and three industries.

Thanks guys for a wonderful time at the weekend. I had a ball playing trains with the RS Tower boys and the Black Diamond boys. And proved the EngineDriver app on my Android phone. Can't wait till the next chance. Thanks again guys, and for the organisation of the show. And thanks to Mike Hughes for...

Is anyone going up to Weston on Saturday from the London area?
Coming back the same day, or perhaps on Sunday?

Re: Interested in Layout Design?
I was rather impressed with their Virginian coal hauler actually. I thought that for what it was it had a very good operations scheme. Of course it's limited because they're trying to keep the interest of a slightly less sophisticated audience, but I thought that for its size it ticked all the right...

Re: Interested in Layout Design?
Watching something going round and round seems to be something that the majority of model railroaders want to do. We can't afford to ignore that majority. Hopefully we can draw them in and educate them about the joys of more realistic operation, but we'll never do that if we put them off in the firs...

Sounds like a great idea to me. That's why I joined the Ops-Ind SIG Yahoo Group. But some information in the local NMRA BR group wouldn't go amiss.

Re: Essex Belt Lines at Ally Pally
I certainly heard quite a few comments that it was the best layout at the exhibition. One guy said that it was (something like) "surprisingly good", whatever he might have meant by that. I took it as a compliment. He certainly stood around and watched it for quite a while. Oh, and I want t...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
My only comment is that all the work seems to be inside the buildings. Where's the fun in that? I'm sure you've got a good answer to that. I like to see what's going on with the freight cars.
