Re: The Fun Starts Here.

An obvious solution to it was posted on an American forum. Fit brackets to the walls, clip shelf brackets to them and a length of timber across the lot. The baseboards then are supported along their length. Simple.

The Fun Starts Here.

My daughter, bless her, has just moved into her first house and had carpet fitted throughout. She had a fair bit left and she's given it to me for my railway room. I have 5 baseboards going round 3 sides, luckily without a lot of track laid, but I've now got to figure out a way of doing it. The 'boa...

Re: Blue box SD40-2

Thanks for the trick. I'll have a look at it. I have some micro LED's to hand. So many projects on the go at the moment.

Re: Blue box SD40-2

I've made a couple of enclosures for speakers to fit above the rear truck in the body, one of which is approx twice the depth, in theory it will increase the bass response. I have another Blue Box shell in Conrail livery which I want to fit full lighting too. This one has 2 red dots painted on each en...

Re: Hello folks

Well, here we go again. I've scrapped the original plan as I felt it looked too busy. Less is more. The new plan, to me, seems to be more typical of a sleepy end of line. I intend to lay the track in a gentle curve and follow through onto the other side of the shed. This side would be both a fiddle ...

Re: Blue box SD40-2

So far, so good with the SD40-2 loco. New wheels fitted, A-line Mashima fitted, now for the fun bit. I've re-wired the trucks and will put a LokSound Direct decoder in it, above the motor. Obviously hard wired, which shouldn't pose to much of a problem. I want to fit ditch lights, lights etc. but I'...

Re: Improved power pickups

I'm rebuilding a Blue Box Athearn SD40-2 and thought I'd try this trick. Had no luck due to steel frames. I did manage to fit the wires to them though. Maybe it's because the wire has a bigger area for the solder to grab. Just waiting for drive shafts then I can test run prior to fitting DCC.

Re: Walthers Kits

As the Kadee page says: "The #148 coupler will work anywhere a NO.5® Coupler will work." Picked up a long-out-of-date Walthers kit myself last week on eBay, also with the Victors sticker. Shows again just how much stuff remains "unbuilt & stashed" in this world. I wonder if you got it from the same...

Walthers Kits

Just received in the mail a number of NOS Walthers kits. They've got plastic wheels, which I'll change, and plastic couplings. The steel weights also have surface rust, which shows how long they've been buried. The recommended Kadee is No 5,which I can get easy enough but what's the difference between...

Price is reasonable I thought as well. The kit has enough bits to do 2 loco's. Thinking about a way to im...

Re: Blue box SD40-2

Got the parts for the rebuild of the SD40-2. I've got a set of Athearn 40" wheels which drop straight in, but before I do, I'll fit phosphor bronze wipers to the trucks. The flywheels were slightly too loose on the Mashima motor shafts,I like to have a firm push fit, but a drop of 603 sorted that on...

Re: Blue box SD40-2

Will do. Had 'mails informing me that parts are winging their way over. Bit sad maybe, but I like to Google Earth to see where the vendor is. In this case,it's a place called Blissfield, and Google dropped me right by a railroad crossing in the town. They have also a Depot Museum there, which intrigue...

Re: 11th Avenue

I've started using servo's myself. The controller I'm using is a Megapoints job, http://loolee.org/megapoints/index.html , which will control up to 12. A DCC module is also available for it. The servo's themselves are cheap Tower Hobbies micro's as they don't have to work hard. Mounts I get through ...

Blue box SD40-2

Just got myself one of these at a good price. It sounds a bit rough and rattly on DC,so that is the first thing to sort out. I have a new set of motor mounts on order, as well as an A-Line conversion kit with a Mashima motor. Then, when complete and running smoothly, it'll be treated to a Loksound dec...

Re: Hello folks

My name is Henry. The layout is fitted into a 10x 6 foot shed and is on 4ft x 18" Tim Horn 'boards. No backscenes are fitted. I'm going to fit a small piece to the left side as the sector plate is too short. Effectively, the layout would now come round in a "U" shape, with a basic fiddle yard on the ...
