Re: DCC Accessory Compatability
Hi Mike I am not sure I understand your suggestion to use the throttle bus 12v for feedback, are you suggesting a data signal modulated on to of the DC? We have re-purposed the lines used for the booster bus on the basis that those lines only need to be delivered to a small number of point around th...

Re: DCC Accessory Compatability
Hi Peter Thanks for the very interesting link. The issue of compatibility is one that also concerns me, if we were starting entirely from scratch I'm sure things would be different. I would have wanted to go to an layout control bus system such as CBUS or C/MRI but it was a decision made by our tech...

Re: DCC Accessory Compatability
Hi Mike Some recent postings on the JMRI user group suggest there is a drive to get CMRI accepted as a possible standard. This would be in addition to the CAN based system. Personally I am big fan of CAN based systems and am keeping an eye on the MERG CBus system, I've not looked at other hardware y...

Re: Hacienda Avenue - HO Switching in So Cal
Hi Dan
I'm rather keen on this new layout, looking forward to seeing it. Where did you get your Arizona Rock and Mineral ballast, I'm thinking about using it on my module.

Re: Recommended sound decoders for Atlas Genset
Hi Mike With the past experience of MRC sound the but.... put me off straight away. Having a chat with some of the guys, including you at the Fremo extravagaza last weekend makes me happy that the Tsunami decoder would be suitable, perhaps just a little fiddly to connect the ditchlights. It looks li...

Re: Recommended sound decoders Athearn RTR GP40
Hi Dan/Mike
Thanks for the buying pointers, and for the speaker recommendation. I tend to look at Coastal DCC first as they are my local DCC specialist, even better if they are cheapest!.
Thanks

Recommended sound decoders for Atlas Genset
HI All Further to my earlier post I also have two Atlas Gensets, alson in IHB livery. I would also like to fit these with sound decoders and am investigating the options. I know Soundtraxx and MRC both do replaement decoders but I'm not sure if anyone else does. My very poor past experience with MRC...

Recommended sound decoders Athearn RTR GP40
Hi All I've just purchased a couple of second hand Athearn RTR GP40s (the old style with no DCC board) and I'd like to fit them with sound decoders. These will obviously need to be hard wired types. I've never fitted sound decoders before and only have one factory fitted sound decoder in an Athearn ...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
Hi All Sorry about the delay in further refinement of this plan. Non-railroad activities have been to the fore for a few weeks Following a chat with Mike Arnold at the last Thamesiders meet I have decided to stick with a straight lead to the paper plant. While I like the angled lead it would look ra...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
I've realised it would be more useful to explain my preferred option, of the two plans posted yesterday. My preference is for version 1 the the angled left hand turnout in the paper plant. The two spurs are slightly longer with the angled turnout, they should easily accommodate two cars rather then ...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
Is that the Bluford shops one on order? I saw them on Model Junctions site and was tempted but have yet to look up prototype photos. UPDATE Just found some photos of the black +orange caboose and the new orange liveried locos, might have to go for a transfer caboose as they do look more interesting ...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
Hi Martyn I'd agree that no runround is appropriate for the location, worst case scenario if it ends up at the end of a 'branch' it's a good excuse for working it with a shoving platform. Yes thats an idea I rather like. I like the industry with the tank cars on the right in your last link Geoff, wi...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
Hi Mike But just one observation - this to me is LDSIG at work. Is it something we would like to see more of? yes I think so, by going through this process I have been able to discuss how my initial idea might have worked and been able to move to something more appropriate for me, and to them improv...
