There are many Tunnel motors in here, which is a little worrying as I like those....
Is Silvis a location for a scrapyard, or are these to be re-furbished?

A quick search on Google earth seems to confirm my suspicions.... panic on! Took a screen shot of the view I had, see below.. It's a little sad, but also a great topic for something to model, zoom in, and scan around, see the dynamic brake housings collected in places, fan assemblies, empty locomotive frames etc. Name a locomotive type, chances are you can find one here. I've seen some E and F units among all the others , SD70's and everything in between...

Not actually a scrapyard - but a workshop for National Railway Equipment (NREX) - some undoubtedly will end up cut for spares, others will be reborn, rebuilt, or just patched up and leased out (NREX)...

Silvis was formerly a Rock Island shops, and was a location where lots of ex RI power was stored when they shut down.

PS - Check out the Santa Fe B unit out back...anyone up for a Metra E unit? ;)

http://binged.it/RdyNsq is their other similar location at Paducah KY (an ex IC shops) - lots of nice raw materiel there too! :)

Something similar is the inspiration behind this layout:
