Thank you for that, Keith.

Other inquiring minds would also like to know, since the site still receives a reasonable number of visitors.

I was wondering if we few are the only ones doing anything, or are others too shy to share their ideas and activities.
You never know your idea maybe just what some of us having been looking for.

Keith's progress through first ideas, planning and now building is an example of how someone's experiences could help others in a similar situation.

I have noticed questions being asked elsewhere, perhaps if put on this forum they would receive more responses.

If I can add the current stats:

Members - 540
Of those, Have come here at least once - 295 (54.6% of total membership)
Have used the forum within the last month (6/05/2014 to 5/06/2014) - 61 (which is 20.7% of forum users, 11.3% of total membership)

Note - this counts those members who have visited the forum and been logged in, it doesn't count anyone, member or non-member, who might browse it without being logged in, and it doesn't count any member who may have logged into the NMRA-BR website but not visited the forum.

RED numbers show a drop from the last time I ran the data (which was Dec 2013)
GREEN numbers show a rise from the last time I ran the data
(If a number stays static then i'd have left it black)

I don't normally stat this, as it's harder to work out (I have to dig through the posts and count!) - In terms of posts, 18 topics have been posted on in the last month, with a total of 45 posts! (Up to, but not including this one!)

Some explanatory stuff...

The registered users (what the forum software calls members, currently 806) / and the actual number of NMRA-BR members (currently 540) will be different for several reasons - for example:

1. Some "registered users" aren't real people, for example there are some admin logins, plus search engine robots.
2. When a member doesn't renew (or renews without "member services") then their account on the NMRA-BR website does not cease to exist, but the permissions change, so those folk are still included in the 806, but not in the 540. Only the 540 have the permissions to post, although most of the site is readable by anyone.

Thanks Keith, by all means continue your posts on your progress on your hobby, and share your questions/ experiences etc. Specific questions in their specific chapters on the forum, and more generic ones as part of the 'story'.

And yes I've been silent. Haven't done much modeling, but quietly read modeling topics on a variety of (web) sources. I will try to better my life :-)

I'd say stick to it.

I agree that the percentage of members who do not (yet) use this forum is fairly large, and only a percentage of those actually post stuff.
(It's similar to other media, only a percentage submits articles etc, the rest only 'consume' it.)

However, if we don't continue usage and post articles, it will never become a worthwhile resource that we envision this forum eventually will become.
Eventually, the amount of topics and articles on here will be big enough, to start making up a reasonable proportion of internet search results people will do, and gradually we'll see the usage grow.
Another reason is a new generation of model railroaders will eventually join (as long as we keep promoting the hobby), who will be more willing, and more adept in using forums etc , which is where this will start to take off. We're pioneers at the moment, and that's absolutely fine.
Let's keep it up, and remember it's not about the quantity, but quality, that hopefully will set us apart in due course :-)

I suspect there are many of us too, that are on US-based Forum, and therefore, when asking questions etc, get more answers (and consequently more ways of doing something).
I know if I want anything Santa Fe, then I ask on the Santa Fe Yahoo Group.

I have also noticed there are more comments / questions on the RMWeb site, but again, it is just a small following too.

yes there are a lot of forums out there, and it's ever easier to set up one for a specialist subject, such as you mention the Santa Fe, or anything else.
In the old days, you'd be hard pressed finding a magazine for every niche, that simply isn't economical. Now you can set up a forum/website etc at low to no cost, and you are in business.
