On30 Track - PECO or Micro Engineering?

Post by billdunseith » Fri Nov 01, 2013 6:13 pm

I am thinking of building a small On30 layout as a fill-in between other projects and I am considering hand-build track and turnouts with wood ties, etc. However, if I take the easy way out and buy ready to lay track and turnouts I wonder what you would recommend: PECO or Micro Engineering?

Thank you.

Mainly appearance. The Peco points are robust but the track did not look right under the 2-8-0 and 4-6-0 engines, but to be honest it looks to good under the Shay's.

I've gone for a mix of Micro Engineering and Peco (Code 83 HO track) to get things running but have hand built the track in the works area using LITco code 83 point kits. I'm happy with the ME track and it runs well but in time I hope to replace it with hand built.

Thank you for that Jim and what I will probably do at first is use Peco Code 83 HO track just to get the feel of things in this scale/gauge before building something more realistic later on.

Now, if it’s not too much of an imposition, could I ask you where you get your LITco code 83 point kits and other items for your hand built track?

EDM Models, York. They have a large range of track and parts, including Micro Engineering.
