Re: Scratch building a warehouse
Mike/Koos, I use Walthers Modulars Roof Details #933 3733 for vents and air conditioners. Also the small nickel silver fold up ones from BLMA. Like you I found no ready source for suitable warehouses so have scratch-built a few and have also kitbashed Great Western Models and the Walthers Magic Pan ...

Re: Scratch building a warehouse
Koos, Beware gluing the beautifully printed and weathered concrete base sections with PVA - in my experience they will part company, especially when there is any dampness in the air. I tried the same thing but have now used double sided tape from Michaels in the USA (Killer Red as Jack Burgess calls...

Re: Model Railroader - March 2013
My replacement magazine arrived this morning - postage cost $8.00. Ouch for Kalmbach as the cover price is way less than that. Now you see why NMRA Magazine costs us so much over here. Time for an e-copy option on that?

Re: Model Railroader - March 2013
Their response: Dear Mike, Thank you for the inquiry regarding your Model Railroader subscription. We are sorry to learn that your March 2013 issue arrived with missing and duplicate pages. A replacement will mail shortly. Please allow approximately 3 weeks for delivery. It is not necessary to retur...

Model Railroader - March 2013
My MR for March 2013 just arrived today - it has 16 pages missing (27-34 and 75-82); and 16 pages duplicated. If you get yours by subscription check your copy. I have reported this to MR.

New Loco Announced by Athearn - Genesis Range GP50
Probably the worst kept secret - Athearn announced this past weekend their next HO scale loco, the EMD GP50.

Re: Matching Freight Cars to Industries
After some thought on what industries I could encompass, I have finalised the list. I admit to unashamed admiration for Lance Mindheim and the choice has been inspired by his work. I describe them starting at the right hand end of the plan above: The scrap yard is now complete and can accommodate th...

Useful Tips for Operating Sessions
There are four videos by Mike Hamer and Chris Lyon on Youtube with tips for operating layouts especially when strangers are in on sessions. Here is part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59BE0V0j ... 3E65E0EAC8 The other three parts are listed below it.

Re: Interested in Layout Design?
As I said in the inital post I am a member of the LDSIG. One of the "perks" of membershup is that you can share material with NMRA members....as long as author credit is given along with a link to the LDSIG membership page or other LDSIG contact details are provided with it. Membership is ...

Re: Athearn Genesis Cabooses
How do you ensure that it is only 15Ma? I am ignorant of things electrical - I know that a resistor can limit voltage but Mas are still in a cloud somewhere!

Interested in Layout Design?
I wonder how many members are either members of the Layout Design SIG (LDSIG) or are interested in layout design. Could you please express an interest and whether you are a member of the LDSIG? It might be worth creating a new UK-based group to get together and share ideas and even put on a display ...

Athearn Genesis Cabooses
I have one Genesis caboose with decoder and another without. The latter has LEDs in place but requires, the words say, a lighting circuit to complete - all pick ups are there already. Would it be possible to wire in a simple decoder like a Digitrax DH123 with 1000 ohm resistor to complete the circui...

Windows for Scratch-building
I came across a product I had not seen before - laser cut packs of windows in OO and N scales. I picked up a mixed pack of domestic windows, set OOS-D6 from my LHS the Hobby Box (got 10% discount for NMRA membership - a shameless plug for them). Whilst some look traditionally British (a Crittal-look...

Re: North Fork Springs
Koos, it looks as though Knauf have stopped manufacturing it and gone over to foamwool boards. I have a pack of four sheets in my garage I do not need....garage is in East Sussex. Anyone coming to Benson from Devon? There seem to be other suppliers but in smaller sizes like A1 through A3, so many sh...

Re: Photos and Copyright
Peter, I am not sure your original question is about copyright as expounded by others in responses. I have used others' photos in articles and even used someone's blog material as an article, but always with permission if you can get it. If you attempt to get paid for somebody else's photos you MUST...
