Mike R,
Thanks for the posts. I have not been back to the forum lately to see your post sooner. Been rather busy - now got our two granddaughters coming too stay for four days - and they want to go on the Bluebell Railway! Who am I to object to that?

Re: Switch Lists
I model the modern era, 1990s onwards but still would like to explore using a pre-printed sheet that you fill in manually for each trip. Eventually my layout will be continuous run with various industries in different locations. At the very least there will be 1) Dillon as shown as part of the Essex...

3D Printing
I came across a tutorial on how to do 3D printing - from preparation of the initial model through to completion ready for "printing". This link is on the Shapeways website, a companmy I have used to purchase some lights for industrial buildings designed by friend of NMRA BR Seth Neumann: h...

Switch Lists
In its simplest form, a switch list is a list of freight cars that make up the local train with details of those car numbers listed along with their destination industries. I have used these a couple of times now with some success and enjoyment. But, here's the question: should there be a correspond...

Re: Interested in Layout Design?
I wonder if there is an appetite amongst our members to start some series of article in Roundhouse on layout design, starting with basic principles, and explaining the thought processes any member planning a new layout needs to take account of? I have read a good few books and articles by renowned l...

Koos,
SP #4837 is a great choice as it retained its L window cab right up to 1995 at least - may even have acquired its patches with it intact before repainting into the yellow and gray.

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
Geoff,
I prefer the straight approach to the paper mill on the first and the straight angled siding against it (angled low relief?)in the second - swap the hand of the turn out to achieve both? Or is it entering the building?

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
Geoff, Sorry my mistake about the industry flat - could not see the plans when I was composing...forget that idea! Not an idea at all. But just one observation - this to me is LDSIG at work. Is it something we would like to see more of? Mike Hi Mike You're quite right, I can't easily put up 12 feet ...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
Geoff, A few thoughts although a bit late into the fray and feeling guilty because I suggested you post your quest here. In your "givens" you have specified board size and by inference I assume the space in your flat to put them up, i.e. 9 feet of length, the extra 3 feet being at Frating ...

Re: New to DCC
In addition to the above comments on systems, one thing you might consider is going to one of the major retailers in DCC to see if you can look at and play with different systems to find the one that suits you. We did this by going to Digitrains at Digby Manor in Lincolnshire. Worth also asking Ted ...

Gaugemaster OPTI Decoders
I have just discovered Gaugemaster's OPTI decoders - bought three at the Ally Pally from Digitrains and fitted them all - they look like Digitrax DH123s or TCS T1s - have a 9-pin socket and come with a 9-pin plug and 8-pin socket lead. Installation and programming manual on gaugemaster.com in the do...

Re: Interested in Layout Design?
Hello Boys, Am a member of the Yahoooo Group only. Personally, I find that looking at the prototype is generally all the layout design ideas I need. John, I absolutely agree and thank goodness for Google Earth etc. There is no better plan than the one the professionals laid down for the real thing....

Re: Depth of image on buildings
The building is part low relief - it hides a staging track. I built it with a back wall of black 60 thou plasticard, with Evergreen girders placed regularly for uprights. In between, in the black plastic, I pasted a selection of photos taken from Google - "Images of Lumber". Search and ye ...

Great Model Railroads - John Signor's Southern California RR
Just gone on line is one of the greatest model railroads I have ever seen, either in print, on video or up close and personal - John Signor's rendition of Southern California in HO scale. Here is a link to it: http://johnsignor.com/modelrr/ Sit back and enjoy. Subsequent pages also include some tuto...
