Re: What was your early inspiration?
It all started with a Brittain's mayzak Jinty - a plain push along broadly to OO gauge/scale I guess. It was a present from my dad when my yiunger sister was born - to go with the Ian Allen ABC on LMR locos that my daytime carers gave me. I was 2 years and 7 months! There must have been something be...

Re: Detailing an Atlas Trainman GP38-2
Now we are on the last leg - making the loco look pretty again. The first job at this stage was to apply some reflective yellow sill stripes over the traditional UP red sill stripes. I went though my stock of decal sheets and found Microscale #87-1263 for BNSF H3 standard cab repaints and used the t...

Re: Detailing an Atlas Trainman GP38-2
Now we turn to the details on the cab roof. Examination of the photo of the top of #820 reveals that there is a bent firecracker antenna placed at the rear centre of the roof - I drilled ouit with a #72 bit 4mm from the back edge of the roof and applied a Details West cast brass one (part #RA 157). ...

Re: Kaley Yard
Trevor, when I looked at your blog again I thought it was a case of deja vu then I realised you aren't Pelle Soeborg! Absolutely fabulous work. :o I am just going to have to come up to your place and have a look for real and perhaps a play! I need to read your article in Roundhouse too. Keep up the ...

Re: Detailing an Atlas Trainman GP38-2
At last some of the detail is going on. Here is Trainman GP38-2 #820 overlaid on a photo of its prototype. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3931/15405490841_7944f0bb77_c.jpg DSC_0741 by mikearnold , on Flickr The details added thus far are: Q fans, anti-climber, left rings (eye bolts), cab shades, toi...

Re: Detailing an Atlas Trainman GP38-2
Some more cleaning up of surfaces was then needed to be able to mount detail parts on the end pilots, front and rear, like cut levers/pin-lifters and mu hoses. Next I started assembling all the parts I would need to add to the loco: new plow and mu hoses (Details West); cab shades (A-line); exhaust ...

Re: Detailing an Atlas Trainman GP38-2
I purchased it somewhere like B&Q for woodworking, making countersunk holes to take screws. I used it before on a tunnelmotor dynamic brake housing and was surprised at its "bite" and perfect circle formation. You just need to ensure it is centred accurately and the resulting hole is n...

Re: Detailing an Atlas Trainman GP38-2
Making a start Remove the body from the chassis and put the chassis to one side. To avoid damaging them, I carefully removed all the handrails from sides, nose and rear end – they are just a force fit. Put to one side and keep safe for putting back on later. They are very nice fine mouldings consid...

Detailing an Atlas Trainman GP38-2
This is my first attempt at recording progress on a project like a blog so I hope it works for you the reader. This first project is to modify and detail an Atlas Trainman GP38-2 that I acquired secondhand from Dan Spalding at the Armitage Modular Meet in July. It portrays UP #820 in the latest ligh...

Re: Module spec release 2
The new Spec has been mentioned twice in BRe-news now, May and July with no obvious reactions to it here. If no comments are posted in the next week or so i would recommend we make it the latest final version.

Re: Recommended sound decoders for Atlas Genset
Geoff,
I have a Tsunami one with speaker - there is a fitting guide on the Tsunami website somewhere. Not fitted yet. It got good reviews and is supposed to recreate the three engines in sequence sounds. MRC also have one and was first on the market but...

Re: Module spec release 2
There have been no comments made about the latest version of the recommended specification for HO modules. I think it is safe to asxsume that members support it. The BOD, having considered the matter at their last Meeting on 26 April 2014 and approved it subject to members' comment, therefore aiutho...

Re: Bringing NMRA to the masses
Trevor, Well done. Unless you try you never know and certainly engaging 20 people in conversation out of an attendance of 300 is a good hit rate. Getting 20 visitors engaged at any show is a good rate and the attendance tends to be a lot higher. Can you follow up with ciontact with any post-event? T...

Re: Achievement Programme - Chief Dispatcher
Alan, The good news for you is that both Ted and Mike record who does what on a spreadsheet. It seems that the Region AP Chairman, Steve Park, needs to appoint two "judges" to verify your time spent. He may have done this altready but is very facilitating and may ask the owners and another...
