Conrail SD9

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8471/8127994992_8599d1c8e8_z.jpg Conrail SD9 6921 by bxmoore , on Flickr I picked up this Conrail Proto 2000 SD9 from ebay a few weeks ago, planning to strip it, and use the Details West SP SD9E pack to turn it into an early-eighties scarlet-and-grey job. I knew nothin...

Re: My HO Switching Layout - Galatia, KS

It's really interesting that one of the common themes many of us seem to have is the developing interest in layouts for operation and portability, as well as still being able to strive for decent, believable scenery. Add to that the agreed Modular Standards that allow inter-operability, DDC and soun...

Re: Modules v Boards

Kathy, I'd go for the latter. All of the new modules built at Western Union module units only have "proper" modular connections on the outside two boards. There's more than enough "playability" in them, and your other option seems to add needless complication. You'll still have l...

Re: Short UP Auto Train

Ah, you open up a can of worms there, Koos! I've learned, over the years, that, for me (emphasis on "for me"), it doesn't pay to use "the exception" hardly ever, if you want to model "prototypical" trains and operations, which I increasingly strive to do. It was Tony Th...

New Pollok, CA

My layout is based on SP's Coast Line, circa 1954. It's freelanced inasmuch as it's a fictional location, but I'm striving to get ever closer to running prototypical stock and power. It's 18x8', and only half of it is scenicked, as I plan to move at some point in the next couple of years, and the de...

I just cut them off and file the rough edge smooth in circumstances like that.

Re: Sergent couplers

As Koos says, they look great, and are rather fiddly to assemble. The biggest issue is that they will not connect to Kadees. If you want to use your stock exclusively at home, then no worries. if you want to bring them to "live ops", there is a problem.
