Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

Rear Roof I have continued on with adding the rear roofing as a removable section to show the interior detail. I applied the ROCKET HOT ACC for added strength as the entire rear roof assemble would have no other supporting structure. http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/IMG_8686.jpeg One of...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

I have continued on with the assembly of the roundhouse front wall openings which are supplied as brick arched doorways which have been painted as described before to resemble brick with mortar lines. http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/IMG_8590.jpeg I have also started attaching the front...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

I started looking at the steelwork for the roof framing and it looks very (black) plastic…! http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/IMG_8541.jpeg Good old Halfords Grey Primer to the rescue: http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/IMG_8544.jpeg The grey primer is a very good basic primer...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

The Monster Grows...!!! As I was attaching the back wall sections and the monster started taking shape, my previous size calculations started to concern me. I realised that the overall structure would not fit on the intended 24 inch wide module that I intend to plant this on to and out came the Razo...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

Assembly of the Walls I am using Humbrol Liquid Poly which is applied with the supplied brush in the lid. This seems to work better on the kit plastic, where as Plastic Weld seems to work better on white styrene. http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/IMG_8463.jpeg I started assembling the w...

Re: Dean Halls Challenge 2015 N Gauge Buildings

Dean I would use sheet styrene for construction of the basic building which is quite easy to keep it square. You could draw horizontal lines to represent the clapboard siding or use Evergreen Clap Board Siding http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/Sheets.htm UK stockists: https://www.google.co.uk/webh...

Adding oil stains... To simulate parts that have been removed and have left oil stains in the concrete floor use the end of a ball point pen dipped in gloss black paint. http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/IMG_8452.jpeg I am using Vallejo No. 861 Glossy Black as it has a slight gloss shee...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

Dean

The trick here is to apply many thin coats or washes so that they build up and produce a believable look of subtle shades of colour. Experiment with lighter colours to start with then add the darker shades to add depth.

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

The next step is to add more signs of wear… and spills etc. http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/IMG_8429.jpeg Using a very dilute wash of dirty water and my favourite paint brush mentioned earlier I like to apply a very watered down coat of this dirty water mix by “blobbing” on to the surf...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

Applying pastel chalks and other weathering… The next step is to start applying more signs of age and wear. I like to use Tamiya Weathering for this as the results are very subtle and can be built up with many layers. There is no right and wrong way to do this, it just takes time, a lot of time so ...
