Re: Winter Project - West Mary Yard - Postponed!

Yup. I'd agree with Mike. If the biggest issue is space, and you want a decent track plan to switch some cars on and maintain interest, I'd bite the bullet and change to HO. By hanging onto the O scale notion, it's completely compromising what you want to achieve. A couple of sound-equipped locos, t...

Re: Winter Project - West Mary Yard - Postponed!

I've decided to watch 'Tree Point' being constructed for now, I will return to this when I have a better idea of what to do next. Just remember that Tree Point doesn't have a run-around loop! Koos' other module, Wolter Springs, would perhaps be more appropriate for a stand-alone layout served by a ...

Re: Winter Project - West Mary Yard

Keith,

Have a look at this:

It may take a while to load, but it will probably be the most important single thing to influence your thinking. Best to save it, so that you can look at it at your leisure.

Re: Winter Project - West Mary Yard

Keith, your biggest challenge is making it worthwhile to operate enjoyably in such a limited space. The run-around in the middle has to be of reasonable length to allow a loco and at least a couple of cars to fit in, but the longer it is, the shorter the deep freeze facility and the hopper tracks wi...

Re: Winter Project - West Mary Yard

Thanks for posting, and welcome to the NMRA(BR). First question: are you going to use the main line on the bottom RH as the "feeder" track where the trains will enter the yard (eg, by placing them there by hand, "on-scene"), or will you employ an additional length of track(s) as ...

Re: ESU decoders

Rob, Mike and I are definitely happy with suggesting the Select as the "first port of call"; they're cheaper than the 4 and Loksound provide better and better downloads. But essentially, Loksound provides ultra-smooth running without al the hassle you get with the Tsunami. Interesting too,...

Re: ESU decoders

You can't put your own custom sounds into the Loksound Select, Koos; only the bespoke files they provide on their website. You would need a 3.5 or 4 to do what you require. You may also wish to join the Yahoo Loksound group.

Re: Trackplans for a new small modular layout

I envisaged that it would be at the end of a branch, placed just after your Wolter Springs boards, which have the necessary run-around facilities to serve the three tracks.

Re: Trackplans for a new small modular layout

In the first and second plans, you surely wouldn't have any space to place even one corn syrup car back into the facility - looks like the feeding track to it isn't even big enough to hold a loco, never mind a loco and a couple of cars.

The third example works, and is simpler into the bargain.

Re: Grain Elevators

Here's the elevators that I put together for the Anson Yard layout; just semi-flats, made out of styrene sheet etc, following a study of the huge amount of pictures available on the web. On the Anson layout, they were alongside two stub-end tracks, with one serving each. They now live on Mike Hughes...

Re: Corn Syrup facilities

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehu7Vv9xu94 There's also some great information in the attached MR YouTube video. All you need is a stub-end track, a Pikestuff building and some pipework. I've got three Corn Products cars, and am considering putting some basic pipework on a siding on my being-built ...

Re: SP run by on my layout

Always good to see some SP.

In respect of the camera angle, would it not be a better idea to turn the camera 90 degrees, so that you get much more train in for longer, and far less sky?
