Re: East Neuk Fisheries Railway

I presume that whether you pick the car from the yard or staging depends on whether the car required is empty or loaded. An empty car could come from the yard, but a loaded one would have to come from staging, or have been loaded from an on-layout industry. If a car is available locally, e.g. sittin...

Re: East Neuk Fisheries Railway

Looks like a very effective system to me Mike. It's interesting the variety of solutions that people come up with to run their operations. From simple ones like swap like for like cars when you get to a switching point to sophisticated use of car cards and waybills and switch lists and however they'...

Re: East Neuk Fisheries Railway

That looks pretty good to me. It has a wonderful random element in it which is what makes the work more interesting. I guess your ODD#/EVEN# works well for those industries where the arrival of cars is more regular. Where do the cars come from or go to? Do you always assume staging? Is there only on...

Re: East Neuk Fisheries Railway

Mike, is that a sheet per industry or a dice roll per industry? I'd be interested in an example in more detail.

Re: East Neuk Fisheries Railway

G'day barganax. First of all, sorry about taking so long to reply. I've been neglecting the forums lately and just now decided to catch up. It sounds fascinating. I have my own manual system where the waybills drive the action rather than the car cards. The only reason I use the car cards and waybil...

Re: Suggestion box

One thing I've noticed recently is that the forum tab page has stopped refreshing itself. I have to do a refresh or reload manually. Is this something in the forum or is it as a result of my browser settings being changed? I haven't tried to change them myself.

Any clues anyone/

Re: Forum Icons

Thanks for your posts guys. It's starting to make more sense to me now. I noticed the differences but had no idea what they meant. Now I know.

Forum Icons

I'm interested to know what the various icons that are use on the left of the message subjects signify. The different shapes, and stars and rolling bits and symbols. Is there a glossary?

Re: JMRI ops

Gentlemen, thanks very much. That pretty well answers all my questions so far. Martyn, with regard to the "free runners", can you direct them back to some storage location equivalent to "Return when empty to ..."? Also, I wonder if you could invent a dummy load called "cleaning" and direct them to a...

Re: JMRI ops

We're about to start getting serious about ops at Seaboard Southern and using JMRI to help. I love car cards and waybills, but they can be a bit labour intensive to set up, and troublesome to get a good load balance between trains and storage capacity in yards and so on. It's been claimed that you c...

Re: Achievement Programme - Chief Dispatcher

Sorry Mike, I'm just starting to get into this myself and haven't recorded any times. I have about four sessions operating all day on Ted Smale's layout, and three on Mike Tricker's, thought these were only evening sessions and probably not long enough. I'd be interested in doing an operations AP ce...

Re: Auto reversing

One technique I read about once to get over metal wheels causing a short at both ends when the train is longer than the reversing section was to have a small dead section, only a few millimetres or a truck length long to avoid the short. Not so long that an engine could die on it, but it assumes tha...
