Re: Dual-Gauge operations

Thank you gents. I think I'll abandon plans for a dual-gauge turntable and run the narrower-gauge units backwards instead...

Dual-Gauge operations

I'm not sure if this question properly belongs here or not; if it's in the wrong location then one of the moderators will move it to a more appropriate location. Where a dual-gauge turntable is fitted on a conventional 3-rail system, how do traincrews turn the narrower-gauge loco? Would I be correct...

DJH USRA Light Mikado - which Romford wheels fit?

Just like the title says, I'm looking for advice on the correct Romford/Markits wheels for the above kit. It presently has Alan Gibson(?) wheels and axles but one wheel has thrown a tyre and the fit on the axle makes getting the correct lead difficult. i've measured the diameter at 18.375mm, and it ...

Re: Making decals

I've just cobbled up some decals for the Maine Coastal Railroad (please don't ask) using the GIMP software package and a downloaded Railroad Roman font. If I can find a Windows 7 driver for my MD4000 I'm going to dig it out and use it. If successful I'm going to print out some white letters. If all ...

Re: Heljan 89011 Turntable problem

After much soul-searching, testing, conversation with Heljan, and no small amount of wallet-searching I've now replaced the turntable with the 89121. Heljan have no spares for the 89011.

Heljan 89011 Turntable problem

Could this be the first actual query in the Analogue wiring section? My 89011 turntable has no rotational power; locos run across the track happily but the unit will not rotate. It's been out of service for several years but will not rotate at all. The motor runs when straight DC power is applied to...

Possibly because Conrail was nationalised and Guilford's private-enterprise?

Double-headed freight Cab-Forwards

I remember seeing a photo in one of last year's Roundhouses of a brace of Cab-Forwards hauling a passenger train, with the caption stating that the S.P. never double-headed freight trains with Cab-Forwards. Until very recently I would not have sought to contradict the author. On page 86 of "The Modo...

You could always put styrene strip across the flat roof, or use them underneath 45' or 53' ribbed-roof ones.

Re: Walthers powered crane

Very impressive. I saw one of the cranes being moved past Donner Ski Ranch, presumably heading from Sparks towards Sacramento, behind a GP40; unfortunately I was in ski school about 300 yards from the main line so couldn't do anything about photographing it.

Re: Quisling: constructing 16 feet of modular railroad

They also do kits of H0 40' ISO containers for about £2.50 each. You get two roof/floor pieces, 4 doors, 2 end-pieces and two ribbed sidewalls for your money. For anyone looking at intermodal operations this has to be the cheapest way of filling those well-cars.

Re: The Great Pumpkin - aka MEC 232

It's had another coat of Pumpkin, which has covered up the embarrassing runs at the bottom of the shell. I'm going to check it over and either give it a coat of Klear or tidy it up properly and give it a final, light coat then spray the horizontal section of the short hood. Once that's done it'll re...

The Great Pumpkin - aka MEC 232

With 7 Stewart U25Bs either painted and lettered or earmarked for the Maine Central I had to do one as 232, the "Great Pumpkin" for its overall Harvest Gold paint scheme. With my supply of Harvest Gold either elderly or enamel and my not having suitable thinners to hand I opted for docrafts acrylic ...
