Did you paint it ..... top & bottom, inside and out? Makes the world of difference in my experience. This holds for all wood based baseboard material that may be subject to moisture.

Am a member of the Yahoooo Group only.
Personally, I find that looking at the prototype is generally all the layout design ideas I need.
