Re: Deadwood City Railroad - HO

Been nearly a year since I visited this page, a fair amount has happened, but not a lot has visibly changed. Well, 10 minutes after hosting the latest Kent & Sussex area group meeting, and the last two visitors left, the demolition gang appeared. Well not quite, but various structures etc were r...

Layout Design SIG

All I volunteered to be the PoC for the LD-SIG BR, and whilst have my views on direction, I am just one person as part of a group, so I'm open to other options / directions etc. I am a member of the NMRA LD-SIG too, along with the Yahoo group, but my take on this SIG is that we can look at layout de...

Re: Uncoupling improvement

Cannot remember where I got them from (I think the wife got them from a Cook shop!), but I've noticed that some skewers are slimmer than others,
although it would be worth a try with this idea too.

Re: What was your early inspiration?

There have been (model) railways in my household all my life! Even the shop my dad owned was alongside the railway line, so we used to see the trains passing. My dad had some OO Hornby Dublo models, set up on a 6' x 3' board, which as we grew older, was added too. It was an all British affair at the...

Mike, it is the Walthers Electric Utility Pole Set.
I don't think it is available from them at the moment.

The various utility poles include some where you can attach (non-working) street lights too.

Re: Deadwood City Railroad - HO

Progressing slowly as and when time and resources allow. However, I have had a few operating sessions, to make sure that the idea of a single line, in the open, works for staging trains. So far it has been successful. http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy86/santafe1958/Deadwood%20City%20Railroad/1a2...

Re: Why YOU don't contribute posts...

I suspect there are many of us too, that are on US-based Forum, and therefore, when asking questions etc, get more answers (and consequently more ways of doing something). I know if I want anything Santa Fe, then I ask on the Santa Fe Yahoo Group. I have also noticed there are more comments / questi...

Re: The salvage yard, word of advice

Hi Martin, as far as I am aware , the full website and forum access is granted to those that subscribe to the region services. Those with a membership that excludes the region services, will only have basic access, similar to someone who is not logged in. I might be mistaken, and perhaps the above ...

Re: Deadwood City Railroad - HO

Looking good! Out of interest, why the "wiggles" in your staging track? Believe it or not, there are 3 removable boards, and I wanted the track to go straight across the joints. However, the third board is in the closet at the back, and is narrower than the other two boards. (there is ano...

On the too few occasions lately I've had with t...

Progress has been made (as well as working.....), and a test train run too! The solitary 'staging' track, which will be surrounded by buildings and farmland, with the section in the closet part hidden. http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy86/santafe1958/Deadwood%20City%20Railroad/31a84ae26004155eea7...

Re: Deadwood City Railroad - HO

In response to both Peter and Alan, that exactly is my line of thinking! I usually only run one train at a time, so at the moment all I intend to do is lay a single line, perhaps with the scenery being the outskirts of a town, leading into open countryside, and just placing the train on the track as...

Re: Interested in Layout Design?

I just have to decide on the optimum height above groundlevel for it:? You'll get so many different opinions on this..... Depends on what you want to do with regards to the layout, and therefore what you feel most comfortable with. My own layout is on legs of 48", so the track is about 52"...
