Silver dale Anthony Quinlan - 2016/17 Challenge

Here goes. Needed something to get my backside into gear and this could be it. I'm going to build an Ho module, my first ever Ho modelling. I'm just at the planning stage. I tend to spend months researching (which I quite enjoy - finding out about American railroads) and ten minutes planning. The ph...

New cobalt point motors with inbuilt decoders

Hi all. Was hoping to get a few ideas / thoughts from you on the new cobalt point motors (with inbuilt decoder). Am toying with the idea of using these in the future. One "issue" springs to mind: have of you got any thoughts on the use of an accessory bus with the new cobalt? I use an acce...

Re: Wheel spots

Brilliant, thanks guys. Now I've finished and exhibited my contemporary N Scale layout, I'm just starting to model a new era in a new (to me) scale -HO. The era is going to be 1970 - 1978 so this information is critical. The good old NMRA forum was the first place I turned and sure enough... Thanks ...

Wheel spots

Hi all,
Don't know if anybody might be able to help but...
I recently came across "wheel spots." These are shown by white or yellow circles on the side of freight cars indicating either approved or non-approved.
Does anybody have a clue what this is about?
Thanks

Re: UP to resurrect a Big Boy?

Thanks Brian,
I thought it sounded strange - until I read the earlier post on here.

Re: UP to resurrect a Big Boy?

With reference to a previous post stating that a cabforward will not be restored because of the bearings and the fact that it is not UP (despite being a fallen flag), can anybody confirm what I recently read on an American forum that UP will not allow 4449 on its rails because it does not have UP in...

Modelling Query - architectural practice

Bit of an obscure one but... Have started building some structures for my HO modules set in the 1970s, PNW. Query concerns the type of roof coverings on flat roofs on concrete framed warehouses. Does anybody know the types of covering used (mineral felt, limestone chippings, paint on concrete, aspha...

Re: Request for photos

I've managed to access the photo & video posted by Brian. It's very different depending upon the platform you use to access FaceBook (not very intuitive or maybe my intuition is of a different generation!). Via a web browser on Windows, there's a little greyed-out box that reads "posts by.....

Re: Request for photos

Thanks Brian I was trying to view them and couldn't. I don't run the Facebook page, I was attending a number of events, Brighton, Northampton, ally pally with mike Hughes and thought it would be a good idea to start posting at the events. In the end it proved technically impossible for multiple post...

Request for photos

Hi all, Peter Borcherds, Mike Hughes and yours truly are trying to stimulate activity on the Region's Facebook page to show how active we are as an organisation. If you are attending an event as an organiser, demonstrator, exhibitor or simply representing the NMRA on our NMRA stand, could you please...

Re: North Fork Springs

Lumber siding looks superb, particularly the lighting.
The plywood formers and bench work look very sturdy.
Do you intend the flap / hinges to sill lift / open?

Re: California Northern layout in HO

That grass is looking great - did you use your home-made static applicator?
Clouds look wonderful too.
How did you do them?
I've been trying to pluck up the courage to put some clouds on my back-scene and have had a few practise attempts.
Couldn't get the right effect though.

Looks great Dan.
So much operating potential. I think that such in-depth research always pays dividends both in terms of concept and operation.
Looking forward to seeing photos as it progresses.

Peco N-gauge issue?

I'm not sure about this but... I seem to have hit a problem in that certain stock derails on my peco code 80 turnouts in my staging. When I checked, the gauge on the curved part of the turnout that branches off seems very tight considering the radius of the curve. Back in the day 20 odd years ago wh...
