The Western Union's HO-scale 36' long Anson Yard layout will be present at this show.

Anson Yard represents a reasonably modern secondary route somewhere in the broad west of the USA, and features a single-track main line, a passing siding, a small locomotive facility and a three-track yard. A grain elevator and a small distribution business are served by two sidings, and a branch line comes off the yard at the left-hand end; there’s also a helper pocket on the main line which is used to add additional power to heavy eastbound trains.

For the Plymouth 2012 show, we aim to offer the viewer a reasonably accurate impression of a secondary Southern Pacific Railroad route circa. 1980-1990, and where the Santa Fe and Union Pacific Railroads also have running rights. The layout will be Dispatcher-controlled, using track warrants and two-way radio. Every locomotive used on the layout is DCC and sound equipped, and you’ll see many different kinds of trains pass through or stop at Anson Yard: 40-car coal trains, container/piggyback trains, and express freight trains to the more humble local/stopping freight of the type that keeps Anson Yard ticking over.

Anson Yard is controlled by a customised Lenz DCC set-up using the JMRI system; all main line and storage yard switches are operated by the Dispatcher from a laptop and are interlocked with fully operational light signals. The yard switches are also DCC-controlled, but operated from individual handsets to represent their real-life manually-operated equivalents.
Location : Plymouth Guildhall, Royal Parade, PLYMOUTH, Devon PL1 2AA
