Saturday 30 April 2010 (Royal Wedding and early Spring Bank Holiday Weekend)
at the Venture Centre 2000, Wignall Street, Lawford, Essex CO11 2JG, one mile from Manningtree BR Great Eastern main line. Opening times: 10.00 til 16.00. Admission: Members £3; Non-members £4; Ages 5-18 with adults £2; under 5’s free.
Lawford is approximately 3 miles east of the A12 London – Ipswich road, just south of idyllic Dedham, on the edge of Constable country. Manningtree (BR) station is just a mile to the north. The Venture Centre 2000 is a purpose-built hall belonging to the local scout troop and serves as the community centre for Lawford and surrounding areas. Adequate on-site parking, with quiet side streets. The hall is at the junction of the A137 (Wignall Street – Harwich Road outside of Lawford) and Bromley Road where access is from.
The emphasis of the Meet is “Show How” – we have arranged a combination of all-day demonstrations, layouts including a large one in HO to bring your own DCC-trains to run and a few select traders. Catering will be provided by the local hall committee and the licensed bar will be open.
Layouts confirmed include Essex Belt Lines in HO, a modular layout running on Lenz DCC (members are invited to bring along their own stock to run or test and ask questions about building a modular/sectional layout for group use); Twin Falls Lumber on On30 (winner of the Mayor’s Cup at the NEC 2010 show); California Coast in Z scale by Dave Dawes (its final year!) and Galetia, KS by Dan Spalding in HO (see his weathered freight cars up close and running).
Traders will include LSWR Models, Coastal DCC and SPV; Plus Daughters (N scale specialist) and Brian Trains (quality secondhand) have also been invited.
In the room with the bar there will be all-day demonstrations:
- Peter North will be showing how to scratch-build structures from scale plans;
- Paul Lacey will be demonstrating how to apply weathering;
- Alan Sewell will have a display of logging models on show and will also be talking to slides on modelling the logging scene;
- Kevin Dickerson will be on hand to provide advice on choosing and fitting decoders, programming etc
- Mike Arnold will be showing his techniques at track laying, ballasting and basic scenery details
We also hope to have a demonstration on the Achievement Programme and judging for that.
