We have two modular layouts, an HO, which is still being developed and refined, and in N, the SoutherN-Trak which is mature.
The N Modules (SoutherN-Trak)
This modular layout is the more mature of the two, being fully sceniced. We are using the N-TRAK standards of three main tracks with the two inner tracks now using Digitrax DCC; white the outer circuit is conventional DC. We have a 16' staging yard with 7 tracks in each direction for the two outer circuits, and 4 tracks on the inner track ('The Branchline').
The HO Modules
This modular layout is still being developed. We are using the NMRA-BR standards of two main tracks, 5" and 7" from the front edge, on 2' by 4' “dominoes". We have a 16' staging yard with 5 tracks in each direction. Current modules include a 16’ set by Bob Scott, an a new set of corners that are in the process of being sceniced.
Aldridge, Indiana
John Tuckey has graciously donated this HO layout to the Division. We have so far exhibited it once, and decided to rewire it for DCC. We are replacing the three scenic 6’ yard boards at the rear with four more conventional 4’ fiddle yard boards. It also needs some more work done to make it more usable by our members – principally we need to fit point motors, and reduce the [floor to railhead] height. This will take time and money, commodities that are in short supply by the HO members. We will also have make it a bit more generic, since our members model mid-western, southern, north-eastern, and Canadian railroads.
Additional meetings
The HO group also hold additional meetings at the Bearwood Community Centre [address/map]. The meeting fees are higher, since the cost is shared between those (fewer) members who attend. Meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month, January through November. For more details click here.
